Power Sector Core Competencies

Energy Resource Conversions and Power Plant Systems

First semester course exposes the students to various types of power generation systems in operation, along with related  aspects  of  energy  sources  used  in  them;  covering  from  conventional  thermal  and  hydro  systems  to renewable sources of energy.

Transmission and Distribution

As the forward value chain of Indian power sector brings the nation huge losses, we, at NPTI, train and equip our MBA students with adequate knowledge infrastructure and supporting tools which they use to fight against this blot on Indian power sector. We have a dynamic and embedded course design to sharpen the skills of our students in T&D domain. Our students are well exposed to functional and managerial aspects of SCADA, GIS Applications, Smart Grid, IT Applications, HVDC & HVAC, and Advanced Metering Applications etc. Apart from that, our MBA students are given frontal exposure and brainstorming sessions of in-house veterans and industry experts.

Electricity Industry Structure & Regulations

This second semester subject introduces the history of power sector regulatory frameworks, along with their gradual development over  the period of  time, dealing with  the  latest developments. Also an  introduction  to  international experiences is provided with active interactive sessions of case studies. The course helps students to develop a deep understanding of  the  regulatory  frameworks so  they are able  to contribute  to  its development as  to help evolving power sector.

Power Environment Interface

The  compulsory  third  semester  subject  introduces  the  understanding  of  crucial  balance  the  power  sector development needs to maintain with environment. Various related Regulatory structures, EIA procedures, and latestdevelopments on clean energy form the course content.

Energy Efficiency and Energy Audit

This paper delves deeper into aspects related with energy efficiency and effective utilization of energy resources. It is aptly said, one unit saved is equivalent to two unit generated. The design of course is such as to make our students aware of the areas where the saving and efficiency potential lies. Also, it equips the student with adequate technical and managerial tools to help their domain make more energy efficient.

Project Management & Infrastructure Finance

The  elective  third  semester  subject  provides  in  depth  understanding  of  the  concepts  behind  project  appraisalsystems and financial aspects involved in the process of infrastructure financing. The subject has almost been theregular choice of majority of students.

Power Station Management

The elective third semester subject forms the advanced understanding base for systems involved in management of power plants. A further analysis of finer aspects of power station operations and efficiency improvement is dealt with.

Hydro Power Resources Management

The elective third semester subject expands the students understanding of hydro power plants working apart from introducing the processes related to contracts management. This equips the students to get a foothold in the hydro power sector

Integrated Energy Management And Power Planning

This paper builds up the concepts related to various patterns of fuel consumption: agricultural, domestic, industrial and community needs, Demand side Management, Energy Audit & Energy Conservation, Rural Electrification and Integrated Resource Planning  Tools and Methodologies.

Power Pricing and Power Purchase Agreements

This final semester paper builds strong concepts in finer aspects related to power pricing systems and power purchase agreements,  the  student  is  at  home  with  the  understanding  and  various  issues  related  to  these procedures.

Global Power Business

This final semester paper develops the knowledge of students in the field of evolving power markets across the world and updates  the  knowledge  related  to developing power market operations  in  India. So  the  students are well equipped to face challenging assignments in power trading.

Renewable Energy

With the rising need of Renewables in India underlined by exclusive focus on ‘National Solar Mission’, this paper gives a better insight into various renewable power generating systems with special focus on biomass wind energy, Solar PV & Solar thermal systems. Economic & financial systems related to subjects provides a base for enabling sustainable development through alternative sources of energy.

And...

Eight weeks Summers Internship with power industry is a mandatory part of course, to enhance the exposure to live issues, problems & challenges of the power Industry. The Final Semester also requires the students to undergo amajor  project.
